Actor and YouTuber Shahveer Jafry has come under fire on social media for his latest TikTok video in which he is seen pulling a “choking” prank on his wife Ayesha Bieg.
In the video, Shahveer is seen trying to smother his wife with a pillow but failed to do so and then walking away angry.
Netizens have criticized the YouTuber for making light of domestic violence, an issue that is still prevalent in Pakistan. The popular YouTuber has since deleted the controversial video.
Netizens slammed the YouTuber for his tasteless “prank”.
ha ha ha So funny to pretend to strangle my wife.
Sadly, this is one of the most common ways women are killed by their family members, including husbands and ex/current romantic partners.#ShaveerJafry pic.twitter.com/y6msDTdvQV

Kanwal Ahmed, the founder of Soul Sisters Pakistan and a filmmaker, took to Twitter to express her outrage. She said that YouTubers like Shahveer find it “funny” to make a reel around choking your wife in a country where thousands of women are killed every year from domestic violence.
Ahmed added that these kinds of jokes are not just tasteless but also triggering for actual victims of gender-based violence. She called on Shahveer and other content creators to take responsibility for the impact of their content and to stop normalizing violence against women.

It is to be noted that women in Pakistan face high rates of gender-based violence, and many have been killed by their husbands or other family members.
Many social media users are urging content creators to be more mindful of the messages they are sending and the impact they have on their viewers.
