Asim Azhar Reveals Why He Stopped Enjoying Music

Pakistan’s beloved pop star Asim Azhar opened up about his struggles with pressure and expectations in the music industry, revealing how it affected his enjoyment of making music.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Asian Network’s Bobby Friction, Asim shared his personal journey and the challenges he faced growing up in the public eye.

Asim also reflected on the different experiences he had personally and professionally throughout his career. He acknowledged that being in the music industry requires immense mental strength, especially when growing up in front of a large audience.

During the interview,  Asim candidly spoke about the time when he stopped enjoying making music due to the overwhelming pressure and expectations placed upon him.

He emphasized that the period was incredibly difficult for him as an artist. Asim recognized that creating art that he genuinely liked was essential for his personal growth and well-being. It took him years to realize that the main reason he lost his joy in making music was the immense pressure he was putting on himself and allowing external factors to affect him.

I have enjoyed this journey quite a lot more but there was a time that I stopped enjoying making music, and that was the most difficult time. I am a better human when creating art that I like, and I wasn’t and that was affecting me personally so much.

Despite reaching the pinnacle of his career, Asim admitted that there are still moments when the pressures of the industry get to him.

When discussing his aspirations, Asim expressed his desire to be heard in every household, regardless of social class or background. He believes that art has the power to bring people together and wants his music to transcend barriers.

Asim aims to be a representative of Pakistan and South Asia, whether it be through performing globally or producing music that reflects his cultural roots. He emphasized that being able to continue representing his culture would make him the happiest man.
