Looks like Batman and Robin are going through some hard times as the Dynamic Duo has moved to England to catch scammers.
London’s tourists got a superhero surprise last week when Batman and Robin put a stop to a sneaky scam on Westminster Bridge. Nope, this wasn’t Bruce Wane with a minor— it was two undercover cops in capes who swooped in to nab lowlife hustlers fleecing sightseers with a rigged street game.
The Metropolitan Police dropped some footage on Friday, showing officers disguised as the Dark Knight and his sidekick charging through a crowd near Parliament.
Filmed back in February, the clip features Inspector Darren Watson—aka Batman—rocking the iconic mask, with Police Constable Abdi Osman as Robin, complete with a comic-style getup and a bucket hat for extra flair.
Their target? A shady operator running a “cup and ball” game, a twist on three-card monte that’s about as fair as a villain’s promise.
Here’s the scam: the guy shuffles a ball under cups, bets fly from unsuspecting tourists, and—surprise!—the ball vanishes thanks to some sleight-of-hand wizardry. “It’s rigged to rob,” the Met said, noting tourists are prime targets, clueless about the UK’s street gambling laws. A 2017 report spilled the tea: these hustlers even use fake “winners” to lure more victims.
The February 15 sting was part of a crackdown on illegal gambling along the bridge, a hotspot linking Parliament to tourist traps like the London Aquarium.
With scammers getting wise to regular cop faces, Watson got creative. “I had Batman and Robin costumes handy,” he grinned. “Time to think outside the box!” Spoiler: it worked. The Caped Crusaders nabbed one guy, cuffed him, and confiscated his shady setup.
Two men were arrested that day for running the scam, and both were convicted. So, next time you’re snapping selfies by Big Ben, keep an eye out—Batman might just be watching you.
