An “extremely rare” copy of Nirvana’s iconic Nevermind album, signed by all three band members, has just sold for a whopping £18,600 (Rs. 6.9 million) at Wessex Auction Rooms in Wiltshire.
This isn’t just any scribbled LP. The signatures—Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl (now of Foo Fighters fame), and Krist Novoselic—were collected after a 1991 gig at Bristol’s legendary Bierkeller.
Back then, Nirvana was still on the cusp of global stardom, playing to a crowd of just 700 lucky fans. One of those fans walked away with a piece of rock history, which then spent over 30 years tucked away in a loft, presumably next to some old flannel shirts and a few forgotten mixtapes.
Auctioneer and music specialist Martin Hughes, sporting a beard as impressive as the sale price, called it “possibly the best-signed example ever to come to market.” He wasn’t kidding—signed Nirvana memorabilia is as rare as a polite mosh pit.
Nevermind is the album that catapulted Nirvana from grunge upstarts to international legends, selling millions and changing the face of rock forever. The Bristol gig was part of their European tour, with stops in Italy, Germany, and Edinburgh, before the band’s fame exploded.
The Bierkeller, the venue where this slice of music history was inked, sadly closed its doors in 2018. But thanks to one fan’s foresight (and a very safe loft), a piece of Nirvana’s legacy lives on—now in the hands of a very happy, and probably very nostalgic, new owner.
