The Sindh High Court (SHC) stopped the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from taking action against fashion designer Nomi Ansari and his employee Imran Musil in a tax fraud case involving over Rs1.2 billion.
A two-judge bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, issued the order after Ansari challenged an FIR filed on April 18.
The court issued notices to the FBR and others, scheduling the next hearing for May 23, and asked the FBR official who filed the FIR to explain their stance.
Ansari’s lawyers argued the FIR violated a prior SHC order and lacked legal authority, following an illegal raid and sealing of his premises.
The FBR alleges Nomi Ansari, whose real name is Mohammad Noman, under-declared sales and made undocumented cash deposits, uncovering an undeclared factory during February raids in Karachi.
Nomi Ansari, currently abroad, faces potential arrest upon return as the FBR intensifies its tax evasion crackdown.
