Hania Aamir, the Pakistani actress and model who has won hearts across South Asia with her roles in Mere Humsafar and Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, is facing a wave of intense online trolling following her decision to name her new pet Persian cat Aishwarya.
The controversy, which has taken social media by storm, has escalated dramatically in the wake of last night’s Indian military strikes on Pakistan, which killed 26 innocent civilians, including children, further inflaming tensions between the two nations.

Hania recently shared a heartwarming photo of her new furry companion on social media, revealing that she named the cat Aishwarya. While the post initially drew affection from fans, the name—evoking Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan—quickly became a lightning rod for criticism.
The trolling, already significant due to Hania’s cross-border popularity and the recent Pehelgam Attacks, has intensified following India’s latest military action, which Pakistan has condemned as a “blatant act of war.” Netizens have seized on the cat’s name to accuse Hania of pandering to Indian audiences, with comments like, “She is desperate for Indian fans,” and “She can do anything to please Bollywood.” One particularly vitriolic remark read, “She is obsessed with India and should be thrown onto the other side of the border.”

The timing of the controversy couldn’t be worse. The Indian strikes, which targeted alleged terrorist infrastructure but resulted in significant civilian casualties, have heightened emotions on both sides. This tragic loss of life, including children, has fueled outrage, and Hania’s perceived association with Indian culture through her pet’s name has made her an easy target for trolls looking to vent their anger.
Hania’s challenges extend beyond social media. She was slated to star alongside Diljit Dosanjh in Sardaar Ji 3, a project that promised to mark her Bollywood debut. However, the film has been put on hold, with reports suggesting her scenes may be reshot with another actress due to the Pehelgam Attacks and the subsequent political fallout. Additionally, her Instagram account has been banned in India, rendering her posts inaccessible to her Indian fanbase—a move that has further isolated her from a key audience.
Despite the escalating trolling, Hania has not directly addressed the controversy over her pet’s name. She did, however, respond to a separate issue involving a fake statement falsely attributing inflammatory remarks about the Pehelgam Attacks to her.
As the fallout from the strikes continues to unfold, Hania remains caught in a maelstrom of geopolitical tensions and online vitriol. Her supporters hope the focus will shift back to her talent and contributions to entertainment, but for now, Aishwarya the cat has unwittingly become a focal point in a much larger and more painful conflict.
