Emirati Girls Gives Trump a Traditional Hair-Flip Salute

The goras are left confused and scared.

The United States (US) President Donald Trump received a grand and memorable welcome in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), capping off his whirlwind Middle East tour after stops in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Upon landing in Abu Dhabi, Trump was greeted by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the stunning Qasr Al Watan, the nation’s Presidential Palace.

The state reception was nothing short of regal, featuring ceremonial tea, an official dinner, and a lineup of high-ranking Emirati officials. But what caught every goras’ (white folks) eye was traditional Emirati Al-Ayyala performance, complete with the now-viral “hair flip” dance.

For many the goras—and, frankly, much of the world—the sight of synchronized hair-tossing left viewers both people confused and even scared.

What Is the Al-Ayyala Dance?

Al-Ayyala is a cherished traditional performance in the UAE and Oman. It features rows of men wielding slender bamboo canes in a mock battle formation, chanting in unison. The highlight, however, is the group of young women, known as Na’ashat, who rhythmically flip their long hair from side to side. This “hair flip” isn’t just for dramatic effect—it’s a symbol of pride, strength, and victory in Emirati culture.

While the cultural display stole the show, Trump’s visit was about more than just viral moments. This trip marks Trump’s most extensive overseas tour since his return to the political spotlight, signaling renewed US efforts to strengthen ties in the Gulf.
