In a candid interview, veteran Pakistani TV actor Parveen Akbar, known for her powerful performances in dramas like Dastak, revealed her initial reservations about her daughter Rabya Kulsoom entering the entertainment industry. While her son, Faizan Sheikh, was encouraged to pursue media sciences, Parveen was hesitant to let Rabya follow in her footsteps as an actor.

“The industry has changed significantly since I began my career,” Parveen explained. “It’s not the same for women today, and I wanted Rabya to prioritize her education.” Rabya, a qualified dentist who had already started practicing, was steadfast in her academic and professional journey before showbiz came calling.

Her first break came unexpectedly with a commercial offer at her clinic, which Parveen reluctantly approved. “I allowed her to do the commercial and sent Faizan to accompany her. She earned 25,000 for it and was thrilled,” Parveen recalled with a smile. However, when Rabya expressed her desire to act in dramas alongside her dental practice, Parveen consistently declined, citing concerns about the industry’s challenges.

Despite her mother’s reservations, Rabya’s passion for acting persisted. Around this time, Rabya received a marriage proposal and tied the knot with Rehan Nazim. When another acting offer came her way, Parveen advised her daughter to seek permission from her husband and in-laws. “I told her, ‘If they allow you, go ahead, but if they don’t, let go of this dream,'” Parveen shared.

Fortunately, Rabya’s in-laws proved to be progressive and supportive, giving her the green light to pursue acting. This marked the beginning of Rabya’s successful journey in the drama industry, with notable roles in projects like Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha.

Parveen’s story highlights the evolving dynamics of Pakistan’s entertainment industry and the protective instincts of a mother navigating her daughter’s ambitions. Rabya Kulsoom, now a celebrated name, owes her start to a blend of persistence, family support, and a bit of luck.
