Sadaf Kanwal lands in hot waters yet again. This time over her recent statements about women in Pakistani society. Netizens are angered over her regressive statements about women.
In her appearance on a television talk show, when asked if women are oppressed in Pakistani society Sadaf Kanwal said no.
“Women are not oppressed at all. Women are empowered. I personally feel empowered, and you (the host) is probably empowered too. Women are not victims (oppressed) at all. As for Aurat March, that will be another debate.”

She then further asserted her regressive views saying;
“In our society, our culture, I have a husband, I’m married, I must pick up his shoes, I have to press his clothes, which I don’t do often but I do know where Sherry’s (Shahroz) clothes are. I know where Sherry’s things are. What he wants to eat and when, I should know this because I am his wife. I am a woman, Sherry shouldn’t know about me. Sherry should know but I should know more about him. I believe this because this is what I saw growing up.”
She then made jabs at feminism and patrons for equality saying;
“I feel feminism has set in, these people are liberals. Nowadays there are many liberals. They say that women, whatever you (the host) said. But as per me, in my thinking, feminism is that I take care of the man, my husband, respect him and do what I can.”
Netizens were taken aback by the regressive statements affirming the patriarchy. Especially with recent incidents of femicide that have shaken the nation.
People called out her incorrect understanding of feminism and what the socio-economic equality of all genders really means.

Ab yeh kia hai? Bibi feminism means equity, being treated well and given respect, being given choices instead of enforcing decisions, equal pay and benefits for working women and much more. Biwi shohar k liye jo krti h wo uska farz hai, feminism ko kahan ghussa rahi hai yeh

Only stupid people believe.
Sure there might be a few who do hate men but for the majority. They want to end violence against women, they want the same rights as men. The same wage as men.— Khalil Mohammad (@against_stupid_) July 31, 2021
Poeple went as far as compare her to Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar over her recent views.

Others called her a hypocrite for enjoying rights most women in Pakistani scoeity don’t and then schooling all women that they are not oppressed.
Just because it's not happening with you doesn't mean its not happening with anyone. Thousands of women are abused physically & mentally by their own husbands and they don't feel empowered at all! They are fighting for the rights you already have. #SadafKanwal

In the same interview when asked about her ‘marriage rules’, the model affirmed her belief in traditional gender roles and feels the husband should be respected as a man. She added that a man’s status should be higher.
“My rules are so simple that is, one should consider her partner as her husband. His status should be higher because a man earns and spends on the kids. I also earn but that’s what I cannot compare with what he has to do for the family.”
