Akshay Kumar is already in the line of fire over his support for Narendra Modi, a stalwart of ethno-politics. Now the actor got in another pickle after he liked a video mocking the attack on Jamia Milia Islamia University students protesting against India’s Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019.
The Padman actor, however, asserts that it was an ‘accident.’ Point is, who is going to believe him when he’s a known Modi supporter. This is why people genuinely think that Akshay Kumar is supporting violence towards Jamia protestors
A dark day in India
As a legislation that outlaws Muslim naturalization, CAB 2019 was strongly opposed even before the bill was passed. The law with its National Registry of Citizens is assumed to be a replica of the NRC Act 1971. That’s why immediately after CAB 2019 was passed protests erupted all over India.
The most prominent protest was staged by the Jamia Milia Islamia University students in New Delhi.

The police admitted to using tear gas against these students, despite knowing that they did not incite violence. The cops even forcefully entered the university campus and assaulted students and staff just to intimidate them.
Meanwhile Akshay Kumar liked one such video of violence against Jamia. Bollywood has largely been silent on CAB 2019 and the protests. So Akshay Kumar’s actions struck a cord.

The actor later apologized but the damage had been done as his Twitter following fell from over seven million to over three million.
