Pakistani rapper Ali Gul Pir opened about coming from a broken family in his latest song Sorry.

However, his latest single is a far departure from the usual fare. Ali Gul Pir leaves his comedic antics at the door, in favor of a more somber, serious and poignant message that he wants to convey to children, especially those who come from broken families.

The rapper teamed up with Lenny Massey for the track. The song lyrics narrate the guilt of a child who felt that his father left because he wasn’t good enough.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t enough. So you had to start fresh.”
The singer opened up about the experience of penning down this deeply personal song on a television show recently. Ali Gul Pir admitted that he suffered anxiety attacks a few years back.
That experience turned into a moment of reflection for him, making him realize he had not gotten over his own childhood trauma.
Broken Families and Children
Ali Gul admitted that he felt guilty for his parents’ marriage falling apart. Growing up in Pakistan, he was stigmatized as a child coming from a broken family.
He revealed that he had always felt ashamed and guilt-ridden. Now as an adult, he has realized that it wasn’t him who was to be blamed for his parents’ divorce.
And not just that. He decided that countless other children in a similar situation need to know that they are not to be blamed. And what better way to reach out to them? By utilizing his own voice and talents of course.
The comedian reached out to other children with similar experiences to stop blaming themselves.

It has helped sparked a conversation about the various psychological and mental issues children from broken families end up facing as a result, all because their parents could not figure out how to do what’s best for their offspring.

Our Children Deserve the Best
In most family settings, couples who are contemplating separation, don’t seem to realize that its still possible to share parenting duties in the aftermath of a divorce. A healthy upbringing is not out of the question once you factor in co-parenting as a viable alternative for divorced couples in Pakistan.
And what’s more? Children often end up bearing the worst trauma, and all because separated parents fail to explain that just because their marriage ended, it doesn’t mean that their love as a parent will be diminished as a result. A conductive and amicable environment is very much possible, provided there is understanding between the separated parents.
Ali asserted this point as well by saying that ‘couples going through a divorce need to sit their children down and discuss it with them’.
Even in cases where one parent does not manipulate a child against the other parent, these young souls still end up feeling lost and blame themselves. Its important therefore, for parents to come clean about the reasons behind their divorce.
The comedian revealed that he shot the video of the song on a spartan budget, choosing instead to donate most of the proceeds to charity. The funds raised for the video were sent to an orphanage, Sirat-ul-Jannah.
