Ali Zafar’s Lawyer Reminds Aurat March Organizers to Let the Law Take Its Course

Another controversy.

Meesha Shafi - Ali Zafar

Ali Zafar finds himself in another altercation as the organizers of Aurat March voice opinions about the President’s decision to award him the ‘Pride of Performance’. They even penned a letter to the President and Prime Minister asking them to review the decision.

Meanwhile, Ali Zafar’s attorneys are not holding their silence either. They request that the law take its course and that everyone refrains from indulging in hearsay till then.

Cultural Critic Argues that Ali Zafar Was Unfairly Maligned

Recently, the organizers of Aurat March specified the reason behind their request is that two cases were pending against Ali Zafar, a sexual harassment case and a defamation case.

“The decision by the office of the President to confer the Pride of Performance Award to Ali Zafar is deeply concerned us, as Mr. Zafar stands accused of multiple charges of harassment in ongoing cases. Given the distinct accolade the award entails, we do not wish to see its legacy tarnished.”

In response, Zafar’s attorneys pointed out that the cases pending in court were filed by Ali Zafar, not against him. In a formal notice, the singer’s legal counsel stated that the sexual harassment case filed by Meesha Shafi had been resolved by both the Punjab Ombudsman and the Lahore High Court.

“The cases that are pending are by Mr. Ali Zafar against Ms. Meesha Shafi, that of both civil and criminal nature.”

Meesha Shafi is currently waiting to repeal against the decision in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Both Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi have filed defamation cases against each other.

Meanwhile, Ali Zafar has several cases pending in the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing against the social media campaign against him through the course of his legal battle with Meesha Shafi.

Zafar’s legal counsel asserted that the Aurat March organizers’ letter to the President and PM warrant similar legal action.

“The statement of the organization falls under the same as it resonates the same narrative of damaging Mr. Zafar’s reputation especially during noteworthy achievements in his life like the recent ‘Pride of Performance‘ by the government of Pakistan, along with stating falsehoods of ‘pending cases‘.”

It will be interesting to see what happens next. Is Ali Zafar being maligned, or if Meesha Shafi is?
