American Rapper Lil Jon Embraces Islam

“Alhamdulillah” (praise be to God)!

American rapper Jonathan H Smith, popularly known as Lil Jon, made headlines recently for a significant announcement — he has converted to Islam.

The conversion was made public in an online video that saw Lil Jon recite the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, in both Arabic and English at a mosque in Los Angeles. Daily Sabah, a Turkish news website, reported that the rapper shared his decision with a large congregation.

The news was confirmed through an Instagram post where Lil Jon expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love and support he received from his “brothers and sisters” in faith, signing off with “Alhamdulillah” (praise be to God).

Jon, known for his energetic style and catchphrases like “Yeah!” and “Okay”, gained popularity in the early 2000s with hits like “Get Low” and “Turn Down for What.” As a producer, Lil Jon has produced several Billboard Hot 100 hit singles including “Yeah!” which won Lil Jon a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Performance as part of his five Grammy Award nominations

Jon is the second famed American to accept Islam in the first week of Ramadan 2024, after US writer and activist Shaun King.

By adopting Islam, Jon joins a cohort of celebrities who have converted to the faith, including well-known figures such as Clarence Seedorf, Andrew Tate, Kevin Lee, Gervonta Davis, and Thomas Partey.
