Singer-songwriter Asim Azhar is one of the most popular singers in Pakistan. He was the 4th Pakistani musician to cross 100 million views on YouTube – after Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Momina Mustehsan. So, you can imagine his success in the country’s music industry. However, we did not see the 24-year-old perform for Velo Sound Sation. Why? Because he is 24!
In just a month, the music show has garnered over 253 thousand subscribers on YouTube. Bringing lots of renditions and originals through the platform- we have seen popular singers [like Sajjad Ali, Aima Baig, Uzair Jaswal, and Abdullah Qureshi] give outstanding performances throughout the month.
In addition to this, Asim Azhar had also recorded 2 songs for this show. But he was later told those songs could not be posted online. Why? Well, according to Express Tribune, the vocalist is not old enough to endorse nicotine.
Yes, you heard that right. Even though he is 24, which is beyond the legal age, according to the show’s internal legal contract musicians and ambassadors have to be 25 or above to be a part of Velo Sound Station.
According to sources, he had already recorded 2 songs for this season.
Azhar recorded two songs for the outlet but the company decided not to release his tracks, excluding him because of his age, which is 24.
Apparently you have to be 25 or above to promote nicotine as per their internal legal requirement, albeit, the government allows 18 and above.
Another source added that the singer was told his age will not be a problem, only to remove his songs from the list of hits. This is not the first time Asim Azhar has gone through this situation.
The songster was all set to make his Bollywood debut with Humraah for the movie Malang. However, as the Indo-Pak relation worsened, Sachet Tandon replaced him as the vocalist. Asim then went on to release his own version of the song on YouTube.
