In December, Bakhtawar Bhutto shared the story behind her embroidered shawl. The article of clothing was worn by her on her engagement day. And as mentioned by her on Instagram, it depicted her life with her mother.

Explaining the embroidered details of her shawl, she wrote:


I really wanted my mother to be part of this very special moment. The design of the shawl is divided into three chapters (two pallus) telling two different stories.

وہ دریا دیس سمندر تھی
جو تیرے میرے اندر تھی
وہ سوندھی مٹی سندھڑی کی
وہ لڑکی لال قلندر تھی


This roughly translates to; She was the river, the country, and the sea, who was a part of you and me. That sandy soil of Sindhri, that girl was Lal Qalandar.

This piece has often been dedicated to Late Benazir Bhutto. And once again Bakhtawar Bhutto included her mother’s memories to celebrate her big day.
