‘Begum Shak Karti Hai’ Slammed For Being Regressive [Reactions]

Begum Shak Karti Hai

While many like Abrar-ul-Haq’s latest anthem, many are calling the single regressive. From using a typical controlling wife trope in the Begum Shak Karti Hai music video to using labels like ‘Run Mureed‘.

Then there’s also those making jibes at the singer-turned-politician for copying the chorus from ‘Baby Shark’. Earlier in August, the Billo singer had criticized mothers for parenting with a screen and used Baby Shark as an example.

The statement was dubbed as mom-shaming by many.

Now with ‘Begum Shak Karti Hai’ copying the chorus rhyme ‘Baby Baby Shark’, Netizens are not holding back criticism.

Meanwhile, Netizens slammed the track for regressive and sexist lyrics. Especially with the Aja Behja Cycle Tey crooner dedicating the song to people, ‘who are too much married‘.

However, it’s labels like ‘Run Mureed’ meaning a wife pleaser is what irked people. The term is often thrown around for men that do not abide by traditional gender roles and expect their wives to do the same.

Of course, Twitterati did not hold back from schooling. They really laid out the context of the term for Abrar-ul-Haq.

Some Netizens had a sense of humor about the grand slams.

Previously, the singer created a progressive wedding anthem ‘Chamkeeli‘ that reversed the gender roles in traditional Pakistani marriages. The song was heavily criticized by those suggesting the song went against their ‘traditional values’.

However, the song was widely appreciated online and was somewhat of a wedding party anthem for a while. Yet now, this latest single is under fire for the exact opposite. What do you think of Begum Shak Karti Hai?
