As Pakistani films struggle after several ‘new releases’ on Eid-ul-Fitr followed by the competition from Marvel’s Dr. Strange in the Madness of the Multiverse, Behroze Sabzwari has a suggestion.
The veteran actor suggested that Pakistani cinema houses lower ticket prices to encourage more people to watch their movies.
He also suggested different pricing strategies for the morning and evening screenings in cinemas.
Given the current state of inflation too, the Tanhaiyan actor urged cinema owners in Pakistan to reduce ticket prices to target the masses. Talking to SAMAA Digital, the Gul-o-Gulzar actor pointed out how a ticket for a Pakistani film costs Rs. 1000.
He highlighted how given the current pricing, going to watch a movie together isn’t something every family could do.
“If a family of six persons will visit a cinema house how can someone afford a ticket for Rs1000,” he said.
He then suggested different pricing strategies for morning and evening shows.
“Believe me, cinema houses will be houseful if they offer morning shows slightly cheaper, … You can price evening shows even more if there is any loss.”
The veteran actor said all the big releases this Eid had worked hard and made big investments. Therefore, cinema houses would have to maintain balance in attracting fans for every movie.
On the other hand, YouTuber Junaid Akram pointed out how the average pay scale in Pakistan is Rs40,000 to Rs50,000. In that case;
“How can we expect a commoner to spend 10% of his salary on entertainment for a few hours?” he questioned.
He further added how film production requires heavy investment, which forces filmmakers to sell their product at high prices. That is why tickets are expensive. The Pakistani vlogger recently made his film debut with Ghabrana Nahin Hai.
