As expected, Pakistani celebs are sticking up for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to release Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan.
Even Indian celebs posted thank you’s!
Pakistani celebs have been calling for ‘Peace not War’ since the Pulwama attack and the Balakot airstrike. While Pakistan has a healthy amount of trolls, celebrities are using their brands to stop warmongering.
Following the Balakot airstrike, Indian media was blowing up with news of killing militants in Pakistan. On the other side, Pakistan announced that three Indian aircrafts had been taken down and a surviving pilot had been taken into custody.
After Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan capture, Imran Khan decided to be the bigger man (again). In a joint parliament session, PM Imran Khan announced that Pakistan would release Abhinandan as a peace token.
Parliament, Pakistanis and even neighbors from the East side of the border applauded the PM’s actions to de-escalate tensions.
This line-up of fans included a number of Pakistani celebs.
So many proud Pakistanis
I’m so proud to see Pakistanis from all across the board promoting peace, encouraging dialogue and calling to de-escalate an already volatile situation. The PM’s gesture to release the IAF pilot is just the kind of diplomacy both sides need right now #notowar

What a wonderful moment to be alive, to be in #Pakistan and to call yourself a Pakistani citizen.
So proud of us. Its a long hard struggle towards a better pakistan which we fight everyday. We have lost so much. But today we smile. Today is a proud happy day. #PakistanZindabad— Mansha Pasha (@manshapasha) February 28, 2019

Singer Farhan Saeed even called out the warmongerers. His wife actress Urwa Hocane followed suit. The actress usually keeps her political opinions offline.
I have never been more proud of being a Pakistani, proud of my Prime Minister, my army who want peace , my media who has been so responsible, my people who are all advocating for peace. SICKENING to see Indian media spreading war hysteria among its ppl. #PeaceNotWar #SayNoToWar

Although Indian celebs are I are having an Imran Khan fan moment, the trolls were still active. Actress and TV host Mariyum Nafees put them in their place.
– Indians, if your government pressurised Pakistan into releasing #Abhinanadan then how come they couldn’t put enough pressure for #KulbhushanJadhav? Stop believing in every BS your over-hyped, trashy media tells you and thank Pakistani dignitaries. 🇵🇰 #SayNoToWar

Armeena Khan was back to schooling too. The only condition is ‘Say No to War’

Even Fatima Bhutto has curbed her criticism of the government for this moment of pride. She was even proud of how Pakistanis didn’t indulge in hate mongering and keyboard battles like their Indian counterparts.
Pakistan and it’s people should be proud of acting with dignity in the fog of war. https://t.co/tILAiKl9kJ

I am so uplifted by the compassionate and mature Pakistani response today and over the past few days. I have long been a critic but today the government’s move can only be commended by anyone, Indian or Pakistani, who is a true believer in peace.

Peace is a Sport we Play Well
While we may joke around that Pakistan is too busy enjoying PSL4 to indulge in warmongering, we take this matter seriously. Multan Sultan’s Wasim Akram made a point to remind us.
I always knew the colours for peace were Green & White and today just proved it!We have said it again and again that we are a peace loving nation but today actions speak louder than words.Proud of our leader who shows us what is true, what is just & what is right #LetPeacePrevail

Plenty of other cricketers pitched in too.

You’re Welcome India
Even Bollywood got tired of the hate mongering bandwagon. These people were calling for ‘fighting fire with fire’.
Such calm and resilience in the face of adversity . Prayers for our brave pilot #AbhinandanVarthaman . Hope for his safe return. #AbhinandanMyHero

Even actress Hema Malini had a change of heart. She’s the actress who will run in the upcoming Indian elections on a BJP ticket from Mathura.
🙏🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🙏. Happy to hear our pilot is going to be released tomorrow🙏 God bless!

Huma Qureshi was giving out mixed messages. How did India do the right thing by launching an offensive unannounced and almost starting a war between two nuclear states? Good thing our side did the right thing.
India did the right thing by sending out a message that we will not tolerate terrorism. And Pakistan did the right thing by sending our Hero Wing Cmdr #Abhinandan back home! Let’s hope all leaders of India&Pakistan can figure a way to lead us towards peace #NoTerrorism #NoWar
— Huma Qureshi (@humasqureshi) February 28, 2019
Indian journalist Shobhaa Dhe approached the situation the right way. You’re welcome fam.
Thank you people of Pakistan for sending our hero back to us.
Well done @ImranKhanPTI
Welcome home Abhinandan Varthmaan. #SayNoToWar— Shobhaa De (@DeShobhaa) February 28, 2019
