Celebs Laud Senate Resolution Granting Royalties To Artists

Royalties to Artists

After years of efforts, the Senate of Pakistan has finally passed legislation granting royalties to artists.

Senator Faisal Javed Khan tweeted that the resolution had been passed unanimously by the Senate. The Chairman Standing Committee on Info and Broadcasting wrote;

“Congratulations, as the resolution has been passed by the Senate Pakistan unanimously today. Appreciate the support from all the members of the house.”

Celebs from the biz also took to Twitter to laud this development. Those celebrating the move include Humayun Saeed, Salman Ahmad, Omair Rana, Adnan Siddiqui, Vasay Chaudhry, etc.

Efforts definitely picked up momentum after veteran actor Naila Jaffery’s video on the matter went viral in April 2021. That way artists would have sustainable income from multiple reruns of a production.

“Most countries around the world give royalties/residuals to artists every time a show, their work, is re-run, a second time or more. However, sadly in Pakistan, where many artists are already underpaid, there is no policy or law ensuring that artists be given financial credit for their work.”

The attention online did get the Sindh Culture to help fund the starlet’s cancer treatment. However, royalties for artists is the long-term solution to such dilemmas.
