1. Anand

Anand (movie) was pretty unique for its time. It told the story from a third person perspective, which really added to the drama of the film. It was the emotional appeal of the cinematography and how it complimented the story that got us.

Back then actors really put a lot into their characterization. It was considered among the best Bollywood movies at the time.

2. Mughal-e-Azam

Mughal-e-Azam (movie) is considered the ultimate love saga thats based on a true story.

Deep down we would like to believe that Anarkali did escape and that shrine of her’s is empty. The dark ages and the light of love is how we can describe this romance classic Bollywood movie.

3. Pyaasa

Indian classics have a theme of women making sacrifices for love. The strength and assertive nature of Gulabo’s character though do make up for it (just a little).

The love ballads in Pyaasa were as beautiful as Vijay’s poetry.

4. Chupke Chupke

Creative comedy is how you can describe this movie. Chupke Chupke (film) follows the story of a jolly and full-spirited professor who with his wife, family and friends devises a series of pranks on their brother-in-law.

Unlike the redundant comedy films of today, the jokes in Chupke Chupke were family-friendly and tasteful.

5. Mother India

The struggle of a single mother post-independence. After the colonial reign had turned a nation with the highest GDP in the world at the time into the poster child for poverty, India struggled to get back on its feel.

The film seems to be symbolic of this struggle, how a post colonial motherland struggles to raise her two boys.

6. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro

How two friends went from caring about their start-up to caring about social issues. That’s the storyline the film follows.

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’s cast will have you glued to the edge of your seat.

7. Guide

A local tour guide’s journey from archaeological discovery to self discovery, thats Guide in a nutshell.

Splashed with fame, money and love on the way there, Guide is a beautiful film stressing on egalitarianism.

8. Awaara

The struggle of coming from a broken family is perfectly captured in this film.

Awaara has one of the sentimental endings in Indian cinema. It tells us the important lesson that communication is key in any relationship.

9. Salaam Bombay!

The film highlights the lies of life and excuses we give for the things we do.

Apparently the story of an abandoned street child in Bombay the film has a lot of deeper and hidden lessons.

10. Gol Maal

The original comedy that was rebooted in 2006.

The story-line of the original film was much more creative. The theme of this movie was that one lie leads to another and things get out of hand.
