15 Blockbuster Movies to Watch Out For in 2019

So many good movies to look forward to next year!

With 2018 almost gone, its time for a New Year’s watch-list. Although 2018 is still expected to churn out some new movies with Bumblebee and Aquaman, 2019 will be the year of Avengers: Endgame. And then we’ve got some great comedies and horror flicks to look forward to this year.

2019 is going to be a good year for films so we just went ahead and listed our recommendations to you. Here is a list of movies we’re looking most forward to this coming year.

Do note that this list does not rank films in either ascending or descending order because they’re all quite enticing.

Contents

1. What Men Want

While most of us are not fans of the all-female reboot of classics like Oceans 8 and the new Ghostbusters, Taraji P. Henson is way too funny in this gender-swapped reboot of What Women Want.

Taraji’s character isn’t the male chauvinist that Mel Gibson was in the original film but she definitely qualifies as a man hater. We’ll have to wait and see how this one turns out.

2. Upside

What happens when you put together Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart in a light-hearted film? A rib-tickling barrel of laughs is what happens.

Upside follows the story of an ex con (Hart) who is hired as a caregiver for a paraplegic man (Cranston). How Kevin Hart brings color to this man’s dull life is something to look forward to.

3. Glass

This movie has been awaited since we saw that cameo of Bruce Willis at the end of Split. The idea that will power can help you accomplish anything is so ordinary yet the way M Night Shyamalan made it crazy is unbelievable.

We’re really looking forward to the misunderstood bad guy that James McAvoy brought to life. Plus this movie is about Mr. Glass, who is none other than Samuel Jackson himself.

4. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

We fell in love with How To Train Your Dragon stole hearts and then the sequel just added to the hype.

The hype wasn’t uncalled for as the animated wonders did live up to expectations. That’s why we’re expecting great things from The Hidden World.

5. Captain Marvel

Speaking of heroes, we gotta mention Captain Marvel. The film will also set the scene for Avengers: Endgame.  Given how in the closing scenes of Avengers: Infinity War, we saw Nick Fury sending a distress call to Carol Danvers, his plan against the apocalypse, this movie might give us a glimpse at her powerset.

The Captain Marvel movie will basically serve as Carol Danvers’ origin story. Plus, it will naturally lead to the Captain’s introduction in the frontlines for Avengers: Endgame.

6. Shazam

Warner Bros and DC also have a origin story lined up for 2019. The story of a boy who gets the power of Greek dieties, Shazam is set to release in May.

This one seems to be an action comedy at first glance. But then there are some emotional bits that touch on the themes of family as well as bullying. The part about Shazam getting to know his powers and growing like any child may just reel us in. We just hope its not the same as the goofy take on The Flash in Justice League.

7. Avengers: Endgame

Since we’re on the topic of superheroes, let’s just get this one outta the way too.

The follow up to one of the biggest movies from 2018, Endgame may pick up after Thanos kills off half the universe with his snap.

Ant-Man is back though we we don’t know how. There’s still no sign of Captain Marvel but Captain America’s got a plan. Oh and Tony Stark may just be on death’s door. We can’t wait to see how this all pans out.

8. Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen

Not exactly the poster boy of comic heroes but if an anti-hero like Venom can get his moment in the limelight, then so too does this new Hellboy.

The reboot cast David Harbour (the sheriff from Stranger Things) as Hellboy. This is the third live action Hellboy movie technically, but this one isn’t a Guillmero Del Torro direction. Prepare yourself for an entirely new take on the hellish anti-hero.

9. John Wick: Parabellum

Another badass hero with questionable decisions. Last time we left off with a massacre of hitmen and John’s still not outta retirement.

We don’t know where our hero is headed next. Who’s his friend and who’s his foe?? Last time that wasn’t very clear so what’ll happen this time. These are questions we’re hoping will be answered in Chapter 3.

10. X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Another origin story but this time its for 20th Century Fox’s X-men. The movie will follow Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey on her journey to becoming the dreaded Phoenix.

Given the events of X-men: Days of Future Past we know that chaos will find another way. Based on the role of Jean in X-men Apocalypse we know its only a matter of time when she loses it. Will her friends and fellow mutants be able to stop her from ending life as we know it? Lets find out next year.

11. Men in Black International

It may look like Thor and Valkyrie in a parallel universe but the Infinity Stones didn’t go that far, we think.

This one’s got aliens, all manner of futuristic weaponry, Liam-freaking-Nesson and well, it pretty much has us hyped from what we see here.

12. Aladdin

Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie and the whole motley crew get the live action treatment for this much anticipated movie. Need we say more?

13. Dumbo

People have been waiting for the real life adaptation of Dumbo for ages now and we finally got it.

The trailer was a real tear jerker but the potential romance between Eva Green and Collin Farrell has us shipping the two. This one is pretty much a nostalgia-fest for fans of the original.

14. The Lion King

The live adaptation of the Disney animated classic is being called out for its excessive use of CGI. But guess what? Sometimes all you need to do is take a look at that computer generated but cutesy lion cub. And the rest just falls into line. No wonder it made the Internet lose it after watching the trailer.

This one’s equal times nostalgic and equal times magical. We gotta see how this labor of love comes together.

15. Spider-Man: Far From Home

For those of you who cried when Peter Parker died at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, well you’re in luck as we got another Spider-man movie to sooth those tears.

The movie is set perhaps before the events of Avengers: Infinity War (or maybe after it?). Still rooting for the teenage hero who is trying to manage his hero business while surviving high school. Oh and we also hear of a classic ‘mysterious’ villain this time around, and perhaps Jake Gylenhall can answer that question.

Let’s find out what happens next year for our friend with webs.
