Abrar Ul Haq

After the former PRCS chairman Saeed Elahi petitioned against Abrar Ul Haq’s appointment to be ushered in as the new PRCS chairman, the situation seemed rather unclear until today.

What was the petition about?

Saeed Elahi had filed a petition against Abrar Ul Haq’s appointment, citing reasons that his claim to the Chairman position lasted till March 09, 2020. He states that appointing any new chairman before the specified date was illegal.

The petition also stated that Haq’s appointment to the Chairman position could also create a conflict of interest as he is already running another charity known as The Sahara foundation.

Elahi also claimed he was not provided with any valid reasons for his removal from office. He requested the court to nullify the appointment of the new chairman.

President Dr. Arif Alvi, in his capacity as head of the PRCS, removed Dr. Elahi as Chairman over allegations of corruption and nepotism. He instead appointed PTI leader Abrarul Haq as PRCS chairman for a period of three years.

The Verdict

The appointed bench members which included Chief Justice Athar Minallah announced the verdict. The decision was taken after hearing arguments presented by lawyers from the government and the petitioner today.

The bench invalidated the interim order that suspended the appointment notification of Haq as PRCS chairman.

Abrar ul Haq’s lawyer maintained his position that the Red Crescent is a welfare organization and the petition against the appointment of its Chairman is unjustifiable.
