Courtroom Erupts With Laughter Over This Ertuğrul Reference by Judge!

The Ertuğrul obsession makes it to the courtrooms and we are not surprised

Yes the obsession with Diriliş: Ertuğrul is real and has made it to a serious and sombre place like a courtroom! Just yesterday, during a hearing of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Court a judge remarked how the witness ‘looks like Ertuğrul Ghazi’ with his hand on his chest.

The Accountability Court heard the money laundering case against Shahbaz Sharif’s family in Lahore. During the hearing a witness repeatedly placed a hand on his chest before speaking. This led NAB Court judge Jawad-ul-Hassan to remark;

“Why are you keeping a hand on your chest repeatedly, you are looking like Ertuğrul Ghazi,”

According to Geo News, the comment had the courtroom erupt with laughter. The light-hearted comment cut through the tension in the courtroom. No wonder it was so well received.

The NAB Court summoned two more National Accountability Bureau (NAB) witnesses, Ibrahim Malik and Muhammad Sharif, in the hearing of the money laundering case against Leader of the Opposition, Shahbaz Sharif’s family.

Ibrahim Malik and Muhammad Sharif have been summoned to record their statements during the next hearing. The court has adjourned the hearing of the reference till January 4th.

Hand on My Heart

Unlike how we’re used to seeing people place a hand on their heart out of horror, Turkish dramas actually showed up a different perspective.

In the Turkish period drama, Diriliş: Ertuğrul the protagonist and his whole clan of Kayi Muslim Turks greet each other by placing their hand on their chest. The gesture is like the silent nod which can mean a greeting, a silent understanding between two people or just mere acknowledgment.

With the Ertuğrul craze in Pakistan not only have people picked up bits of Turkish vocab and the title ‘Bey’ compared rather than ‘Mr’; but also little gestures like the hand over your heart.
