David Harbour Brings Back the Horror with His Hellboy Portrayal

This ain’t gonna be your average lighthearted antihero here

Fans of Hellboy will be pleased to know that David Harbour’s version will be pulling no punches when he debuts on the big screen in 2019. The previous Hellboy, who was played with aplomb by Ron Perlman, was considered as a pretty chill guy more or less. You’d never have guessed that this was a demon who was destined to bring about the apocalypse.

Ron Perlman still won kudos for what he brought to the rock-fisted half-demon in his two outings as Hellboy. But the upcoming reboot, helmed by Neil Marshall (The Descent), is looking to play up the title character’s horror roots to the nth degree. I guess that’s a good thing. Expect copious gore, violence and screams when this one hits the theaters with its R Rating.

Neil, while speaking to the Empire Magazine, shared that he went back to the source material to ensure that his is the definitive take on the titular character, who was created by Mike Mignola in 1993. Only time will tell if Neil’s decidedly horrifying tone for the film is a hit with casual cinema-goers and fans of the character alike.

Here’s what Neil told Empire Magazine:

Some of the stuff is pretty sick. More violent and more bloody. We weren’t making it with handcuffs on.”

To sell on how much of a badass David Harbour’s Hellboy is this time around, Empire Magazine was lucky to give us a glimpse of the half-demon who fights for the good side:

We don’t know about you, but this sure looks promising to us.
