DC Films Fires Henry Cavill from Upcoming Superman Role

The news comes just days after Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3 was axed amid a massive shake-up at Warner Bros.’ DC Films

It’s a sad day for fans of Henry Cavill’s Superman. The actor just revealed that he has been fired by DF Films after being told by the studio to announce his return to the franchise in October.

The 39-year-old British actor broke the news on Instagram, stating that he had had a meeting he had with the new heads of DC Films, director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, who revealed that their next DCEU slate includes a youthful Superman film.

Henry Cavill noted that the change came “after being told by the studio to announce my comeback back in October, prior to their hiring”.

He added, “This news isn’t the simplest, but that’s life”.

“The changing of the guard is a common thing. That is something I appreciate. James and Peter are creating a universe. I wish them and everyone else associated in the new universe the greatest of luck and fortune,” Henry Cavill continued.

James Gunn tweeted later on, “We just had a terrific meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we spoke about a variety of intriguing options to work together in the future.”

In response to a series of queries by fans, James Gunn confirmed that the upcoming Superman movie will not be an “origin” narrative. He also divulged that Ben Affleck will remain in DC’s studios but as a director. Meanwhile, the latter will reprise his role as the Batman in The Flash.

Henry Cavill first played the titular character in Man of Steel in 2013, and his run as Superman ended months after Netflix unexpectedly announced that he would no longer appear in The Witcher.

Fans and admirers praised the actor for his performances in the films, and Shazam! actor, Zachary Levi, also sent his condolences, saying, “Hope to catch you in another universe, sir.”
