A member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) wing in the United Kingdom has come forth with shocking allegations against the Chief Minister of Punjab, Usman Buzdar’s aide, Azhar Mashwani.

The British ‘Insafian’ took to Twitter to make these revelations. According to the deputy head of PTI UK Twitter, Arslan Mushtaq the CM’s aide asked the social media manager to run smear campaigns.

Was Usman Buzdar aware of what Azhar Mashwani was doing under his nose?

In a video message, Arslan Mushtaq accused CM Punjab’s Focal Person on Digital Media, Azhar Mashwani of telling him and others to run smear campaigns against critics of the PTI government which included Aurat March participants, journalists, and even calls for the arrest of journalists.

“I lead [PTI] UK’s Twitter. What do you do there? Have you not told us to run campaigns against people such as [journalist] Amber Shamsi and [Ahhttps://twitter.com/IshaqSafi19/status/1351182869876584453mad] Waqass Goraya? Did you not use to tell me what to tweet against Aurat March participants? Did you not use to send me voice notes, telling me what message to send in which groups?” Mushtaq asked in the video message.

He alleged that Azhar Mashwani sought retweets and assistance making videos against political rivals such as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President, Maryam Nawaz.

The PTI UK Twitter Deputy asserted that he will reveal more in another video.

Azhar Mashwani Denies All Claims

Meanwhile, the CM’s aide told Current.pk that Arslan Mushtaq is a ‘pathological liar’. He denied the allegations

“It’s funny that a pathological liar and imposter’s statement, who was exposed by me, is being quoted against me. That too without any evidence.”

He tweeted the same sentiment in his tweet responding to the allegations.

According to PTI’s Social Media Head, Mohammad Kamran Arslan’s actions are the result of a personal rift with Azhar Mashwani.

PTI’s Social Media Head revealed that the CM’s aide and UK deputy head had a fight in private and then Arslan took to Twitter in a revenge ploy against Azhar Mashwani.

“They had a fight in private, which led to a public fight on Twitter. Some things were said that were not true. The fight was settled and they deleted their tweets but as you know, once something goes on social media, it will be questioned. An inquiry against our deputy lead Baloch has been called by Overseas head Zeeshan.”

Mohammad Kamran further also asserted that the matter would be handled via a disciplinary committee.

“It is our internal matter that will be heard by our disciplinary committee and then any needed action will be taken against whoever is at fault.”

Netizens React

Now the question arose if Azhar Mashwani was doing this under Usman Buzdar’s nose or did he get a stamp of approval.

Many online condemned PTI over the allegations against Mashwani.

However, some people support the trolling of certain journalists fanning this issue online. The question posed if this viral video can be accepted as evidence without digging deeper.

Update: Arslan Balouch’s String Operation

As promised, the social media worker actually released a string of follow-up videos. It seems this whole ordeal is not at all what it seemed.

He even dished out dirt on how his video was taken out of context. He explicitly asserted that he had not once mentioned CM Buzdar’s aide Azhar Mashwani.

He asserts that his videos were a staged plan to bring people who worked on to spreading ‘anti-Pakistan’ propaganda into the spotlight. He was inspired to execute this ‘spring operation’ based on the Director-General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) briefings about how journalists indulge in spreading anti-Pakistan content on social media.

Looks like his plan worked as he asserts he will expose all the journalists that propositioned for him to spread anti-PTI narrative.

Netizens have raised a number of questions about the legitimacy of the claims. The viral video has not shaken the faith of people on the fence about PTI.
