Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt once recalled a story about the time he took some hard drugs and fell asleep, only to wake up two days later feeling hungry. An old video clip of the actor narrating the incident is making rounds on social media again now.
He once was a guest on Salman Khan’s show Dus Ka Dum with fellow actor Jackie Shroff who told him to educate young college students about illegal drugs and how they can affect a person’s life.
Sanjay Dutt took the opportunity to share one moment from his life that helped him quit his addiction.
Once I was very high so I went to my room and slept. I woke up at around 7-8 in the morning, feeling hungry. I told my house help, who had been with me for several years, to “give me food'”.
The Munna Bhai star explained that his servant started crying and told him that he had slept for two days. He could not believe he was asleep for so long.
He remarked,
I wasn’t in my senses. That day I decided to quit drugs.
The veteran actor concluded by stating that “drugs are a waste” and that “the intoxication of life is the best“.
Sanjay Dutt has had a history of drug abuse since the early years of his career and his addiction was highlighted in his biopic Sanju (starring Ranbir Kapoor). However, the actor has always been vocal about his addiction.
Earlier this year, he gave a candid interview to Indian YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and said,
I was very shy, especially with women, so I started it[drugs] to look cool. You do it and you become a cooler guy with the ladies, you talk to them. Ten years of my life I was in my room, or in the bathroom, and not interested in shoots. But this is what life is, and that’s how everything changed. When I came back (from the rehab), people used to call me charsi (addict). And I thought, galat hai yeh (this is wrong).
On the work front, Sanjay Dutt continues to entertain the masses and is set to appear in the upcoming Indian film Ghudchadi with Raveena Tandon, Parth Samthan, and Khushali Kumar.
