The entertainment industry takes another hit as Turkish star Ayberk Pekcan AKA Artuk Bey passed away yesterday. Dirilis Ertuğrul fans are reeling from the loss.
Ayberk Pekcan lost his battle with lung cancer at the age of 51. He had been battling the disease for months now. Back in October 2021, the Turkish star shared his cancer diagnosis on social media.
“Dear friends, the process that started with the doctor I went to for back pain ten days ago has reached this point today. I have lung cancer. The tumour has also spread to the liver and adrenal glands. Unfortunately, in the initial stages, this disease did not show any symptoms. First day of chemotherapy. My greatest support is my family. My friends are close by. I will do my best to regain my health.”
Pekcan’s Dirilis Ertuğrul co-stars such as Engin Altan Düzyatan AKA Ertuğrul Bey, Esra Bilgiç AKA Halime Hatun, Celal Al, Cem Ucan etc all posted obituaries for their co-star on social media.
Even the series’ director and producer Mehmet Bozdag took to Instagram to pay tribute to the actor behind the pivotal character;
“Aberk Pekcan Hakk, who contributed his spirit to our project with his acting in Ertuğrul has passed away. May God have mercy on our brother. I pray for patience for his family and loved ones.”
Artuk Bey was an experienced physician in the Dirilis Ertuğrul storyline. He was a respected bey of the Dodurga tribe. When he joined Ertuğrul and the Kayı tribe on the journey to the Western borders of the Sultanate of Rum, he became Ertuğrul’s right-hand man.
He then administered the Hanlı Bazaar and Karacahisar Castle. Fans largely remember the character losing his vision in the series. He even goes on to play a role in the spin-off series Kuruluş Osman.
