After more than a year since Nicki Minaj’s father was killed in a car accident, the driver responsible for the vehicular crime has been sentenced to jail.
Robert Maraj died in a hit-and-run back in February 2021. The 64-year-old had been walking on Long Island when he was hit by the car. He was rushed to a hospital in a critical state. Where Robert Maraj died from his injuries.
Nicki eventually opened up about the tragedy on her website saying;
“I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life.”
The driver, Charles Polevich, has finally been sentenced to time behind bars in this case.
As per TMZ, the court ordered him to serve one year in jail and pay a fine of $5,000 after pleading guilty to two felony charges.
The two charges against Charles Polevich are, leaving the scene of the accident without reporting it, and tampering with physical evidence.
At the time of the incident, the police said that the driver fled the scene and tried to hide the car in a detached garage at his place.
Aside from the jail time and the fine, his driver’s license will be suspended for 6 months. Charles Polevich was facing up to 7 years imprisonment for the death of Nicki Minaj’s father. However, Judge Howard Sturim followed through with a commitment to not sentence him to more than one year in jail.
