Hasan Minhaj just dropped a bomb on us. The comedian revealed that his Netflix show ‘Patriot Act‘ is being canceled. The political comedy show filled in the role of information provider in a time when people want politically correct comedy.
It seems like just yesterday that the Indian-American comedian went from his role on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah to his own Netflix show. However, the comedian brought up how he’s had two kids over the course of the show.
Even now he’s going out with a joke.

Others were furious. Netizens talked about how Netflix pulled the plug in the Patriot Act at a time when it’s most relevant.

Netflix just canceled @hasanminhaj’s vital PATRIOT ACT at a time of global pandemic and racial reckoning, in the middle of the most critical election in modern history, right after the unveiling of a Dem ticket whose VP is Indian American.
That is to say: When we needed it most. https://t.co/aVKXZX2Q2o

Others talked about how while corporations jump the diversity bandwagon to cash in, they’re not really interested in making these diverse voices heard.

hasan minhaj is the only south asian comedian i have ever watched who never ever did a fake accent when imitating his parents. that’s just one example of how he stands out from everyone else and makes his jokes FOR our community, not about. no one does it like him🥺

AND he never wore a dupatta over his head trying to imitate brown parents yes this a very direct @ at the comedians who do this

I understand, but my point it’s not just that. More like he was making powerful people mad and that’s probably one of the reasons his show got cancelled.

The best part of it was he has always educated people through Patriot Act without being mean or rude about it, and also kept it entertaining. And he shows you that HE is also continuously learning and unlearning. It's such a damn shame that we won't get more of that.

Others deliberated what this meant for the future of TV. Plenty are hopeful that Hasan Minhaj will just bounce back somewhere else.

As a professional TV critic, can I just say: This sucks. Loved the show. Loved Hasan's voice (I was on the board of jurors which gave it a Peabody). Hope he finds a way to keep causing good trouble in a new venue. https://t.co/bOznea2Lxa

It’s obvious from the discussion, audiences aren’t happy with Netflix. They’re pretty sure they’ll introduce a Patriot Act-esque show soon enough, given the popularity of the format and content.
What? How? Why? I'm totally shocked. This show truly changed the game and will influence a million shows to come. https://t.co/5IEt5cKxzs

The kinds of topics @hasanminhaj & @patriotact made space for was just so so so needed and refreshing.— KyleMarian 🇵🇭🌏 (@kylemarian) August 18, 2020
Netflix isn’t down for the long run of any show. The future of tv is grim.

If Netflx can’t provide Hasan Minhaj a platform, we’ll go wherever he is provided a platform. After all the audience is loyal to their favorite shows and artists, not the platform.
