Emma Watson reportedly revealed her special relationship with her Harry Potter co-star, Tom Felton, in a foreword in his memoir, Beyond the Wand: The Magic & Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, which was published on 13 October.
From co-stars to BFFs, Emma Watson delved into her rare and special friendship with the actor who played Draco Malfoy, and had fans wishing for the two to become a real-life couple.
Tom Felton and Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger, have had a long-standing friendship lasting more than two decades, which has fuelled rumors of romance over the years. Despite the speculations, the pair have been adamant that they were never romantically involved, and have finally addressed the nature of their relationship.
In a short foreword of Tom Felton’s memoir, Emma Watson called him a “soulmate” as she shared that the two “love each other in a special way”.
She wrote:
Like Tom, I always struggle to explain to people the nature of our connection and relationship. For more than twenty years now we’ve loved each other in a special way. It’s one of the purest loves I can think of. We’re soulmates, and we’ve always had each other’s backs. I know we always will.
“It makes me emotional to think about it: she added.
The actress concluded:
to be seen and loved like that is one of the great gifts of my life.
Tom Felton also reflected on their deep love for each other later on in the memoir. He admitted that he had a “secret love” for his co-star but “not perhaps in the way that people might want to hear”.
He explained:
That isn’t to say that there’s never been a spark between us. There most definitely has, only at different times. Rumors started to abound that there was more to our relationship than we were letting on. I denied that I liked her in that way, but the truth was different.
Hermione-Draco shippers were heartbroken to read what followed:
“My girlfriend at the time knew straight away that there was something unspoken between us,” Tom Felton admitted, and added,
I remember using the familiar old line, ‘I love her like a sister.’ But there was more to it than that.
“I don’t think I was ever in love with Emma, but I loved and admired her as a person in a way that I could never explain to anybody else… We were kindred spirits. I know for certain I’ll always have Emma’s back and she’ll always have mine too,” he clarified.
It is nice to see the two stars share a special kind of relationship with each other, but it would have been intriguing to see the Draco and Hermione actors as a couple in real life. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
