The disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan, by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday sparked protests in various cities but netizens managed to make time for memes even during such political turmoil.
Check out how Twitterati used humor to sum up the political crisis with some hilarious memes:
IK: I resign from this assembly
ECP: Resignation not accepted
IK: Ok I'll contest on 7 more seats
ECP: You can't do that
IK: Watch me *wins 6, loses 1 to rigging*
ECP: You're disqualified from holding the first seat
IK: the one I resigned from?

Ironically, Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Chairman, Asif Ali Zardari, is the only political party leader who hasn’t been disqualified yet.
The only honest politician in Pakistan. Not disqualified under Art 62/63 even once. pic.twitter.com/4q3e7nzBnd

ECP Disqualifies Imran Khan
The ECP disqualified the PTI Chairman under Article 63 (1) (p) on Friday and announced the verdict in the Toshakhana (gift depository) reference.
The ECP’s four-member bench ordered Khan to vacate his seat in the National Assembly after unanimously deciding that Khan had misled officials about the gifts he got from foreign dignitaries during his time as the Prime Minister.
The ruling read that \Khan had “intentionally and deliberately” violated the provisions contained in sections 137, 167, and 173 of the Elections Act, 2017. He had allegedly submitted a “false statement” and “incorrect declaration” to the ECP in the details of his assets and liabilities that he filed for 2020-21.
The verdict sparked nationwide protests yesterday, with Khan informing his supporters to get ready for another long march.
However, it is nice to see the Pakistani awaam hasn’t lost its sense of humor during these tense times. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.
