Family Murders Two Teenagers in Manshera For Wanting To Marry Each Other

Another excuse to commit ‘honor killing.’

murder

Two teenagers in Kaghan Valley, Mansehra were allegedly murdered by their family for wanting to go against their parents’ wishes. The two victims were cousins who wanted to marry each other, and the parents were against this idea. Since they could not convince the teenagers to change their mind, the family killed the two.

According to the SHO of the Kaghan Police Station, Wajid Khan, the girl wanted to tie the knot with her cousin instead of her fiancé. This angered the girl’s family, who killed them both.

“When police rushed to the scene, the families refused to register a first information report (FIR) of the incident,” said Khan.

SHO Wajid Khan also added that the father of the boy, Muhammad Shahid, as well as the girl’s father, Muhammad Shahid, have both been arrested. The two were shifted to the police station where the parents admitted about planning the murder of the teens and then executing it.

It is a sad reality that has become far too common in our society. There have been other similar cases reported in the news.

Earlier this year, a Muridke family allegedly tortured and murdered their son-in-law for marrying their daughter by choice. According to the police, the newlywed woman’s parents called over their daughter and her husband under the pretense of reconciliation but instead, they tied up the husband and tortured him. Sadly, the husband succumbed to his injures and died later.

It seems unlikely that this cruel practice of ‘honor killing’, which is more akin to killing people out of a sense of misplaced pride, is going to stop anytime soon.
