Fatima Jinnah Series Set to Premiere on Independence Day

The first season of the three-part series will depict Fatima Jinnah during her 30s and pre-partition era

The highly anticipated web series, Fatima Jinnah: Sister | Revolutionist | Stateswoman is set to premiere on Pakistan’s Independence Day, 14 August.

The series, directed by Danial K Afzal, offers a multi-faceted portrayal of Pakistan’s Madar-e-Millat in three significant eras of her life.

After setting social media abuzz with a 14-minute prologue last year, the web series takes viewers on a journey through the life of Fatima Jinnah. The series is structured to depict Fatima Jinnah during her 30s and the pre-partition era, her 50s and the Independence era, and her 70s during the post-partition era.

The role of Fatima Jinnah across these eras is portrayed by talented actresses Sundus Farhan, Sajal Aly, and Samiya Mumtaz respectively.

The first installment, centered on her role as a sister, delves into the life of the eminent political leader who stood steadfastly alongside Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, setting the stage for her significant role in the history of Pakistan.

Director Danial K Afzal has ensured a comprehensive depiction of historical figures within the web series, besides Fatima Jinnah. The show is set to feature appearances by personalities such as Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal, Liaquat Ali Khan, Ruttie Jinnah, and Rana Liaquat Hussain, among others.

Keeping the suspense alive, Afzal refrains from disclosing the actor portraying Quaid-e-Azam. He stated, “You’ll see a lot you would not be expecting! Oh, you should wait for Ruttie Bai in the show! That would change the landscape of South Asia.”

Afzal shared that his narrative is inspired by the book about Fatima Jinnah by Reza Pirbhai. The series aims to present Fatima Jinnah in a nuanced light, showcasing her as a human with complexity rather than simply a patriotic symbol. Afzal emphasized,

This is not going to be an overt patriotic project; it is not a feel-good show; I am showing Fatima Jinnah as a human and people will love it!

The web series consists of three seasons, each containing 15 episodes, and will be available for viewing on Aur-Digital, a new digital platform.
