Yousaf Raza Gillani

PDM candidate Yousaf Raza Gillani unexpectedly won the general seat in Islamabad, defeating PTI’s Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. The seat was a highly contested one, especially after a controversial video of Gillani’s son was leaked. Now, netizens have taken to their Twitter accounts to react to these unofficial and unverified results.

Yousaf Raza Gillani and his son

Earlier this week, Yousuf Raza Gillani and his son were in hot waters. A leaked video of Ali Haider Gillani put him in an incriminating situation. And the government cried foul play – asking ECP to disqualify Gillani over ‘corrupt practices’.

Yousuf Raza Gilani’s son was caught buying votes in the Senate and giving prescriptions for wasting votes. This is the role of PDM and its unanimous candidate Yousuf Gilani. On which Mr. Gilani says people will vote after seeing my character.

In a press conference, the former Prime Minister’s son said the lawmakers he spoke to were his ‘friends’. He also added that these PTI members did not want to vote for their party. Further clarifying that he did nothing wrong or illegal.

They called me [and] I have met them several times. As a candidate’s son, it is my right to seek votes.

[…] They asked me what should we do if our party is suspicious of us and tries to take away our ballot. […] I told them if they are given an already marked ballot, they should also mark Gilani’s name and put it in the ballot box so that vote neither goes to Hafeez Sheikh nor [Gilani].
