Good News: Gul Makai Expected to Release in Pakistan, Gets Submitted to Censor Board

Good tidings.

Gul Makai

The release of Gul Makai has become yet another hot topic in Lollywood. The movie is based on the life of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai and is directed by Indian film director Amjad Khan.

A few days ago, it was revealed that Gul Makai will not be releasing in Pakistan. The movie was not submitted to the censor board and the rising tensions between the two countries also played a part in polarizing views.

One of the producers of the film, British-based Pakistani journalist Shahid Khan recently revealed that he hopes the film will release in Pakistan. Talking with EPK, he said,

“Gul Makai will be releasing in India on the 31st of January. I recently came to Pakistan and met with some high officials and local distributors. We talked about the film’s possible screening in Pakistan. I also received some negative response because this is an Indian film even though I am a Pakistani and the film’s co-producer. We have presented a positive image of Pakistan.”

Shahid Khan also mentioned that the film has been submitted to the censor board and hopefully, it will be released in Pakistan on January 31.

“Nevertheless, the story bases on the daughter of Pakistan and it should screen in Pakistan. We will be submitting the film to the censor boards in Pakistan. Hopefully the censor boards will clear the film soon and it will release shortly.”

We do not know how the censor board will react to it, as it is an Indian movie and currently Bollywood movies are banned in the country. But as it is based on the life of a Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, we can expect some leniency in the approval.

The movie was shot in India and England and features Reem Sheikh as Malala. Om Puri will also be seen in this biopic and Divya Dutta and Atul Kulkarni will also make a prominent appearance.
