Malala Yousafzai is one of the most respected activist public figures in recent history. Not only is she a Nobel Prize winner bus is considered to be the decade’s symbol of the youth revolution. It comes as no surprise to see this young woman get her due recognition with a biopic and now it is finally here.
Bollywood has been working on a biopic for Malala Yousafzai since 2017 and fans finally have a chance to see the trailer for this highly anticipated (possibly controversial) film before its release at the end of this month.

Titled Gul Makai, the Bollywood produced biopic will feature Reem Shaikh as the young Pakistani activist. Taking place in Swat Valley, the trailer shows familiar scenes which we’ve all come to know about following Malala’s incredible journey, now from her perspective.
We see what led Malala’s cause for advocating for the right of girls’ education and how she was attacked for her ideals.

The film is summed up as an account of “the courageous journey and struggle of Malala, from her humble upbringing in the Swat Valley to her becoming the champion for free education to all.” The cast also includes Om Puri (his final film) although he doesn’t appear in this trailer.
We can’t wait to see this biopic, though we have doubt whether our not-so-friendly neighbors will portray Pakistan in a positive light. We would have loved to see Lollywood take on this huge project but sadly, due to polarizing views about Malala, that is not the case.
Let’s hope Bollywood does justice to the young Pakistani’s struggles and accomplishments.
