When Zindagi Tamasha trailer was taken down from YouTube, everyone assumed the film was in some sort of conflict with the censor board. But the good news is, the film is still slated for release on January, 24, 2020.
There was speculation that the movie might be in trouble for addressing the social issue of misuse of the blasphemy law with malicious intent.
Was there no trouble at all if the Zindagi Tamasha release date is the same? This doesn’t really explain why the film’s trailer was taken off YouTube. So what really happened here?
Sarmad Khoosat’s directorial had already been cleared for screening in Pakistan by the censor board. According to Box Office Detail, while the film had been cleared by the censor board months ago, it was called in again for a full-board review.
According to sources, the full-board also cleared the film but with ‘some cuts’ to the movie.
“The film was recalled by censor board few days back and it was sent to full board. Now three days ago the film has been cleared by full board with some cuts and a new censor certificate has been issued.”
The movie now has a new censor certificate. It would’ve been most unfortunate if the film that won the ‘Kim Ji-Seok Award‘ at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival wasn’t screened in native Pakistan.
Sarmad Khoosat’s directorial, Zindagi Tamasha cast Eman Suleman, Arif Hussain, Samiya Mumtaz, and Ali Kureshi.
The movie will be Pakistani cinema’s first offering this new year. Zindagi Tamasha will be followed by Sarmad Khoosat’s next starring Saba Qamar. Saba Qamar starrer Kamli is scheduled to hit theaters on Eid ul Fitr.
