Google Pays Homage to Pakistan’s ‘Chocolate Hero’ Waheed Murad

Today marks the 81st birth anniversary of Pakistan’s beloved hero Waheed Murad. The evergreen Pakistani showbiz film star needs no introduction since his films were universally beloved.

To celebrate the man, today Google has a lovely little tribute for its users. The man who brought style and grace to the Pakistani cinema is the featured Google Doodle today.

Google promoted a Doodle of the ‘Chocolate Hero’ with a popup text that says: ‘Waheed Murad’s 81st birthday’, if people move the cursor on the Doodle.

One of the greatest film actors, script writers and producers in the history of Pakistani cinema, Waheed Murad is a cultural icon of South Asia. With his charismatic personality, expressions, soft voice and unique acting style, Murad kept cinema-goers mesmerized with each performance. It was the golden age of Pakistani cinema and many credited Waheed Murad for setting the standards.

Born in Karachi, Sindh, Murad started his career in the film industry at 21 years of age. He landed his first on-screen role in the 1959 film ‘Saathi’.

In 1961, his father established ‘Film Art’, where Murad also worked as a producer.  His first produced film was called ‘Insaan Badalta Hai’. He went on to produce ten more films under ‘Film Art’.

Waheed Murad’s most popular film was ‘Armaan’, which he not only produced but starred in as well. The film was a huge success as it defined the golden era of Pakistani cinema and established Waheed Murad as a rising superstar of the Sub-continent during the 60s and 70s.

With alluring performances, expressive gestures and bold romanticism, especially in songs, made Waheed Murad immensely popular. Sadly, his last produced film was called ‘Hero’, which was released two years after his passing in 1985.

It has been more than thirty years since the great Waheed Murad passed away. But his fans, to this day, still remember him fondly. The ‘Chocolate Hero’ is still considered a pioneer in both the Pakistani and Indian film industry.
