Since his announcement to quit showbiz, Hamza Ali Abbasi has been vocal about his decision to become a religious activist. In a recent interview with Voice of America, the former actor shared details about his decision to leave the media industry and use his popularity to serve religion.
Responding To Public Criticism
When asked about the people criticizing his decision as a ‘cheap publicity’ stunt, Hamaz laughed in response and claimed that acting is the best medium for popularity and publicity stunts and that if he wanted to do that he would never have left the industry.
“All my projects were a hit and I am already popular. If anything, I want to use that popularity to spread the message of Islam.” claimed the ‘Pyare Afzal’ star.
Hamza added that he does not blame people for thinking like that and hopes that they would realize that this is not a publicity stunt.
“Adopting the way of religion was because I realized that I will be held accountable in the hereafter, given that I believe in an eternal life. I have not slept peacefully for the past two and half years, knowing that I’ll be held accountable in front of God,” he added.

Tackle The Misinterpretation Of Religion
The former actor went on to say that propagating Islam in a non-muslim region is the first thing people do, but everyone needs to start from their own homes first. He believes that people need to be educated about this.
“Even though our people love the Prophet (PBUH) and are ready to sacrifice their lives for Islam, they are still not educated about religion and are easily misguided by emotions. People have been telling me that I will not survive on this route that I’ve taken but I tell them that I’d rather die in the way of God than change my route.”
Hamza further stated that he wants help people see Islam intellectually rather than getting emotional about small things. The former actor’s goal is to tackle the misinterpretation of religion in youth and preach today’s generation that is attracted towards atheism.
Will Work Only In Religious Projects
Towards the end of the interview, Abbasi said that one of the messages of Islam is that death is not the end of life, but the beginning of another and he wants to spread this message as far and wide as possible. He concluded by saying:
“I did not quit acting because it was haram, but because I want to be taken seriously as a religious activist.”
