Haris Rauf’s Exemplary Sportsmanship After Nasty Bouncer to Dutch Batter Wins Hearts [Video]

Pakistan won its must-win T20I game against the Netherlands in Perth.

Pakistan’s fiery pacer, Haris Rauf, showed great camaraderie off the field on Sunday by hugging Dutch batsman, Bas de Leede, after an accident.

The fast bowler injured the Dutch batsman with a nasty bouncer during Pakistan’s 2022 T20 World Cup fixture at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia. The ball hit de Leede on the grill of his helmet, resulting in a nasty cut right below his right eye.

After Pakistan’s victory against the Netherlands in the must-win Super 12 game, Rauf went over to the Dutch batsman to inquire about the injury. The fast bowler gave his opponent a hug and told him that he “will come back stronger”.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) applauded Rauf’s gesture and tweeted a video clip of the incident, captioned, “Watch the great camaraderie off the field between Haris and Bas de Leede despite a fiery contest on the pitch”.

The Netherlands won the toss and chose to bat first. During the sixth over of the innings, Rauf bowled a vicious bouncer to de Leede who tried to play a pull shot but the ball hit his helmet. The Pakistani players ran to check up on him.

The Dutch batsman was rushed off the field with a nasty cut on his cheek and the Netherlands announced Logan van Beek as de Leede’s substitute.

Pakistan Gets Its First Win

After back-to-back losses, Pakistan finally won its first match at the 2022 T20 World Cup. The men in green comprehensively defeated the Dutch side, restricting them to just 91 runs.

Pakistan chased down the total with the loss of four wickets and Shadab Khan got to smile again as he was declared the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling figure of 3/22.
