Heartbreak in Perth

What was considered to have been an easy win turned into a nightmare for Pakistan in Perth. The men in green suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of the minnows, Zimbabwe, last night. Despite a good bowling performance, including a couple of brilliant three and four wicket spells by Shadab Khan and Wasim Jr. respectively, to restrict Zimbabwe to 130, Pakistan failed to get over the finish line.

Babar Azam and the boys fell apart in the second innings chasing a small total. He and Rizwan lost their wickets early on, putting the responsibility on the team’s fragile middle order. At one point, Shan Masood and Shadab Khan looked ready to take the game but a brilliant bowling spell by Zimbabwe’s Sikander Raza crumbled Pakistan’s batting lineup as the men in green lost the game by just one run in the final over.

Pakistan’s chances to qualify for the semi-final look bleak for now, but we, as a nation, have to back our men in green during these tough times and hope that they find the strength to bounce back.

Don’t forget to watch Pakistan’s next game against the Netherlands on Sunday.
