Here’s What The Crime Rate Looks Like in Karachi This Year

The report reveals shocking details.

On Thursday, the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) released a report on the street crimes committed in Karachi. The report compiles the statistics of the first 10 months of 2020, i.e. from January to October.

According to the reports, around 322 people lost their lives while resisting robbery bids. On the other hand, over 30,000 motorcycles were snatched or stolen, out of which only 1,845 were recovered by the police.

During this period, Karachites were deprived of 18,000 cellphones, while only 1,885 were recovered and handed over to their owners.

The report further reads that 1,300 four-wheeler vehicles were either snatched or stolen from the citizens, however, the police was only able to recover 281 vehicles.

Moreover, 17 extortion money cases, two kidnappings for ransom and one bank dacoity were reported during the said period in Karachi.

Last week, the spokesperson of Sindh Rangers had reported that one of the ‘most wanted’ street criminals, Abid Ali has been arrested during a joint raid with Karachi police.

He said that Abid Ali alias Dada, was allegedly involved in various incidents of dacoity and robbery. With the help of a CCTV footage, the accused was arrested while looting the citizens of Azam Basti with his accomplice.
