Here’s Why Fans Are Cancelling Kim Kardashian

The reality star got a reality check after she lost more than 150k followers in a day.

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to breaking the internet. From her infamous bare-bottomed magazine covers to her perfectly curated bikini selfies, the reality TV star and business mogul has spent nearly two decades mastering the art of online influence.

But this week, Kim broke the internet for a very different reason—and not in a good way.

On Monday, Kim Kardashian shocked her 358 million Instagram followers by posting an Instagram Story featuring none other than former First Lady Melania Trump.

The photo, which showed Melania in her now-iconic navy blue outfit and wide-brimmed hat from her husband Donald Trump’s inauguration, was shared without any caption or context. But that didn’t stop the internet from spiraling into chaos.

The backlash was swift and brutal. According to analytics from influencer marketing agency Socially Powerful, Kim’s follower count took a significant hit in the days following the post, with nearly 150,000 fans hitting the unfollow button.

While Kim’s follower count remains a staggering 358 million, the loss of 144,963 followers is a rare stumble for the social media queen.

The controversy stems from the fact that Kim Kardashian, despite her close ties to Ivanka Trump, has rarely been vocal about her political leanings.

Historically, the Kardashian-Jenner clan has leaned toward the Democratic Party, with family members like Kendall Jenner and Kris Jenner openly supporting Democratic candidates.

Kim herself has been involved in criminal justice reform efforts, working with both the Trump and Biden administrations, but she has largely avoided taking a public stance on partisan politics.

This silence, however, has not gone unnoticed. Many fans were already frustrated by Kim’s lack of commentary during the 2024 presidential election, and the Melania post seemed to be the final straw for some.

The internet, as always, had plenty to say.

“Kim Kardashian posted a photo of Melania Trump? Yeah, it’s clear who she voted for,” one Twitter user declared. Another wrote, “Kim Kardashian a disgusting piece of s—?? Who would’ve thought.”

One commenter said, “girl…. sold out out for far right maga propaganda.”

“UNFOLLOWED!” one user said, while another simply added that “Guys unfollow, don’t watch their show and don’t buy their products. Hit them where it hurts.”

While losing 150,000 followers is a big deal, it hardly is a drop in the ocean for someone with 358 million on Instagram
