The story of Meghan Markle who turned from a tourist taking pictures in front of Buckingham Palace into the Duchess of Sussex left everyone awestruck. While the English media might not have been kind to her in the past, her life remains to be an inspiration for many. One of the reasons why she was not deemed fit to be a ‘royal’, is because she’s a divorced woman. As the reasons for her divorce resurface, the royal couple has been in the headlines more recently.
Before marrying the Prince, Meghan was an American actress and a philanthropist. In 2004, she started dating film producer Trevor Engelson. 6 years into their relationship, the celebrity power couple was engaged.
In 2011 Meghan tied the knot with Trevor, but the marriage lasted only 2 years. There were a lot of speculations around their separation. But according to The Sun‘s article for Women’s Day, the core reason for their divorce was ‘long-distance relationship’ problems.
When the 39-year-old was cast for Suits, she had to constantly travel to Toronto, Canada. And that did not do well for the newlywed couple. Here’s what one of the sources told The Sun:
it was a very difficult way to start married life.
Her maid of honor, Ninaki Priddy, was also quoted saying:
[Engelson traveled] back and forth from LA and there was a lot of Skyping and FaceTiming going on.
Even with all the love and support, the distance caught the worst of them, and they eventually parted ways. Luckily, that was not the case with Meghan and Prince Harry. In a 2017 interview with BBC, Meghan revealed how easy the long-distance relationship was with the 36-year-old:
I think we were able to really have so much time just to connect and we never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other, even though we were obviously doing a long distance relationship.
