HUM TV’s Dulhan Trailer Offers Us a Glimpse of Problematic Issues [Video]

Let’s take a look at the teasers.

Dulhan

Hum TV is coming back with another drama and we have a lot of thoughts about it. The popular channel is bringing Sumbul Iqbal and Sami Khan together and the show is titled Dulhan.

The teasers are out and so far we have noticed a lot of different themes. Love is in the air, but so is revenge, conspiracy and heartbreaks. Let’s take a look at the first teaser.

Taking a Look at the Storyline

Written by Adeel Razzaq, the play seems a little problematic at the first glance. In the first teaser, we can see that the male lead is head over heels for Sumbul’s character. But we can’t say that it’s romantic.

He is rather obsessed with her and has the makings of a stalker. It doesn’t appear cute at all.

The second teaser on the other hand raises more questions for the viewers. It seems that the presumed ‘stalker’ asks the girl out and even proposes her for marriage, but she refuses.

He can’t accept the refusal and thus, decides to take revenge on her. Faizan Khawaja also makes an appearance here and it looks like he is playing a negative role.

Why Promoting ‘Dulhan’ Right Now is Insensitive

There are a lot of problems with the story. Stalking is not romantic, proposing to a complete stranger (who you’ve been stalking for days) is also not lovely and taking revenge after she turns your proposal down is the worst of all.

And with all that is happening around us for the past few days, the production house really thought it was a good time to release something like this?

Women and our society in general is already going through a lot. We don’t want stories like this to add fuel to the fire and encourage rape culture.

At this point we are just hoping our worst nightmare doesn’t come true. Are Pakistani dramas still recycling problematic psychotic issues under the garb of romance? What do you think?
