Pakistani actress Iman Ali recently appeared in Vasay Chaudhry’s Ghabrana Mana Hai. Speaking with the host, Iman shared that she finds it hard to photograph herself because she feels that she is not good looking.

Shedding light on the issue, Iman Ali used rather questionable tone, as she equated the transgender people with ugliness. She said that every time people tell her that she’s good-looking, she is forced to look in the mirror, but she is unable to love herself.

Did Iman Ali just equate transgenders with ugliness?

When asked about why she isn’t active on social media, she said,”

“I don’t like the way that I look. People tell me I’m good-looking, but when I stand in front of the mirror I feel everyone is lying. I can’t even take pictures of myself. Whatever angle I try, I think ‘aye haye, khusra‘.”

She continued,

“People say ‘you’re lying, you must like yourself’. I don’t like myself and people should be able to understand that not everyone is supposed to love themselves. This is why I can’t take selfies and why I’m not active on social media.”

Iman Ali’s controversial statement about the transgender community has stirred conflicting reactions. People are not happy with her comments and TV presenter Rabia Anum also schooled the actress on her biased opinion. Sharing a screenshot of the clip on her Instagram story, Rabia wrote,

Koi aisay stupid actors ka moo band karwado yaar. (Someone please shut these stupid actors up)… Iman Ali now thinks ‘khusra’ is okay to use as a demeaning word. And these people are paid to be in these shows.”

It’s about time that people, especially celebrities think before they speak. Women are not ugly, men are not ugly, transgenders are not ugly. It’s the unhealthy perception of beauty that has been ingrained in our minds for centuries. It’s time we take responsibility for our words and actions.
