Sania Mirza is yet another Indian celebrity who has come under attack by her own countrymen after the Pulwama attacks.
Some hyper-nationalist Indians seem to think that she is ‘not aggressive enough’ in her tweet condemning the Pulwama attack.
Here’s what Sania tweeted following the attacks:
Saddened at the attack on our CRPF soldiers in #Pulawama ..my sincere condolences to the families.. there is no place for terrorism in the world.. prayers for peace .. #PulwamaAttack

However, this post did not sit well with nationalist Indians, who wanted her to blame Pakistan outright for the attacks. All this before a probe into the attack is completed.
“Pakistan’s Bahu”
The Indian sportswoman is facing insults, and bashed for being “Pakistan’s Bahu” (daughter-in-law). An Indian lawmaker even wanted her removed as the brand ambassador for Telangana, an Indian state.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Raja Singh of Goshamahal, Hyderabad called out VVS Laxman, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal to ensure this.
He specifically asked them to remove Sania on the basis that she is ‘Pakistan’s daughter-in-law’.
The Goshamahal lawmaker is known for his alt-right wing and provocative statements. Recently Raja Singh made a sweeping generalization regarding Muslims in India. Here’s what he said at a public gathering:
‘All Muslims in India took to social media to say ‘Accha Hua’ when our jawans were dying.’
There are over 30 cases registered against the BJP lawmaker for hate speech and similar charges.
Sania Doesn’t Need to Prove her Patriotism
On the other hand, tennis star Sania Mirza took to social media to explain that she does not need to prove her patriotism through aggressive statements.
The sportswoman mentioned that the fact that she stands with ‘CRPF jawans’ and their families is evidence enough of her patriotism.
Sania made it a point to mention that while she is out playing, sweating for her country she is serving her nation. Meanwhile, what are her haters doing?
“Of course, we are against terrorism and anyone that spreads it… any person in their right mind is against terrorism and if they are not then that’s a problem!!!”

In the end the sportswoman mentioned that she will pray for peace and others should too.
“I will still pray for peace and you should too instead of spreading more hate.”
Like fellow Indian celebrity Navjot Sidhu, she too seems to be weathering the tough storm as best as she can. One can only hope that she doesn’t suffer just because she happens to be married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
