Iqra Aziz has established herself as one of the leading actresses of Pakistan. Her talents are admired by the masses and her fans anticipate her every move. Her recent project Jhooti was a much awaited drama but recently, its first teaser has ended up with a lot of buzz on social media for ‘trivializing’ domestic abuse.
Domestic abuse is a serious concern in Pakistani society and one that deserves to be treated in a sensitive manner. We don’t see many Pakistani dramas or movies pointing towards the issue and we know many aren’t willing to talk about it. But taking this issue on an entirely different level of depiction is certainly something that we don’t want.
It all happened when ARY posted the trailer videos of Jhooti on their Twitter. The first trailer indicates the marriage between Iqra Aziz and Ahmed Ali Butt, where the former seems to be unhappy with it. The second trailer, however, shows Iqra’s face covered in bruises while she pretends to be abused and calls herself ‘jhooti’.
The video has made several rounds on social media and the fact that Jhooti abuses the victim card and trivializes such a delicate issue, it has ended up raising a lot of questions among the masses.

Disgusting. The producers, actors, the entire lot of them. How did this pass the censors? Are these our ‘cultural values’ that keepers of our morality are always touting?
