An Iranian cleric, Ayatollah Abbas Tabrizian, has shocked everyone with his controversial statements about the ongoing vaccine drive. His remarks against the COVID-19 vaccine are absurd, to say the least. On a messaging platform, called Telegram, the cleric was quoted saying the coronavirus vaccine makes people homosexual.
The Iranian cleric also received backlash earlier, when he burnt an American scientific textbook. He publicly burned Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, claiming that Islamic medicine has made these books ‘irrelevant’.
Now, he has posted yet another ludicrous statement. The cleric claims that the COVID-19 vaccine is making people homosexual. He has 210 thousand followers on the messaging app. And taking to the platform, he wrote:
Don’t go near those who have had the COVID vaccine. They have become homosexuals.
In addition to this, he was also quoted saying that Muslims could not die of coronavirus.
No Muslim in the world has ever died of #Coronavirus. Those who die are only Harrison’s followers who have no religion.

Iranian Cleric attracts attention
Peter Tatchell, a famous LGBTQ supporter, said:
Ayatollah Tabrizian combines scientific ignorance with a crude appeal to homophobia.
He also added that the Iranian cleric is demonizing the vaccine as well as the gay community. On the other hand, an Iranian dissident, Sheina Vojoudi said:
The clerics in Iran are suffering from lack of knowledge and humanity. Actually, his goal of spreading nonsense is to try to scare people [out] of getting vaccinated, while the leader of the regime and other officials got Pfizer, and they don’t provide it for the people with the excuse that they don’t trust the West.
Speaking to a German broadcaster, Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javid Zari said:
Our society has moral principles. And we live according to these principles. These are moral principles concerning the behavior of people in general. And that means that the law is respected and the law is obeyed.
